2024 Saw India Move Up to Second Place In Exports
The Tea Board of India has released export data for 2024, which shows that Indian exports rose in 2024 to 254 mn kilos, making it the second largest exporter of global tea, following Kenya, which, at over 500 mn kilos, took the top spot. The 2024 export totals for India are the best since 2018. The bulk of exports continues to be orthodox tea, which remains supported by government schemes and policies. The export value is approximately $800 million. The goal for 2025 is 300mn kilos.

Assam Tea Estates Receive Incentives
Under the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS), 378 tea estates in the state received funds towards increased production of orthodox and specialty teas (with Rs 10 per kilo subsidy) and support for plant and machinery (25 percent subsidy), and agricultural income tax holiday for three years. These incentives were distributed at an event in Guwahati, attended by ministers, government representatives, and members from the Tea Board and Tea Associations. The Assam tea industry is a significant economy for the state, and support from its government is welcomed.

Indian Tea At The World Tea Expo
We are thrilled to report that two Indian teas were named Global Tea Competition award winners at the Las Vegas World Tea Expo awards. In the origin awards (best tea from each producing region), Kanan Devan Hills Plantations (Pvt.) Ltd. won for the Munnar White. In the Premium Award (best tea in each type), Luxmi’s Tea’s Attabarie estate won for Black CTC tea. And Mou Dasgupta’s Brook 37 The Atelier won in the Superior category (best leaf profile and cup character) for the Moonlight – from Margaret’s Hope in Darjeeling.
